There are a lot of people out there who probably don’t give their bathroom too much thought. Especially here in the LA rental market. The amount of times I have gone to someones house and it is stunning from floor to ceiling and then walked in to a tragically terrible 80’s bathroom is too many to mention. But – I get it, most of the time people don’t want to throw money into a rental and your bathroom is not seen as one of the focal points of your house, like the living room, bedroom, or kitchen might be.
However, your bathroom matters more than you may think. And no this is not a post about pooping (I will leave that post up to Oprah which she did do at one point and talked about all the different kinds and what they mean. Fascinating – but not my cup of tea over here.)
Your Day Starts In The Bathroom
We all have different morning routines, but the majority of us follow a similar pattern as soon as we wake up. First, we hit the snooze button on our alarms (duh, this happens like 4 times for me). Then, we drag ourselves out of bed and somehow manage to make our way to the bathroom.
If you are like me then it is only when we’re in our bathroom and after I have screamed at my Google Home “Hello Google – play Britney Spears, Lucky” as she can’t understand my voice the first two times where we start to finally wake up. After your shower, which is more like liquid sleep, you freshen up in there and brush your teeth and you are ready to go. So, essentially, your day begins and ends in the bathroom, which is one of the reasons to take a little bit of time to make your small bathroom space a little more glamorous. Get yourself some underfloor heating (if you are rich or don’t live in a rental) to make stepping out of the shower a lot easier on those cold mornings. Nice linens and textiles always help make the bathroom a more enjoyable space. Throw a candle in there well because NO ONE likes a smelly bathroom. Find yourself a functional bathroom vanity too so you can do your morning routine more comfortably and have a place to house your 339 lotions and potions as my dad would call them. If you need some options Wayfair, or the plethora of other online places like UniqueVanities.com has you covered. And last but not least you need a big ass beautiful mirror to see yourself and give yourself the reassurance that you can get through the forthcoming day. Positive reinforcement people – it works.
The Bathroom Is Your Relaxation Place
Beyond the cosmetic aspects of your bathroom. Another reason you should focus a bit more design time on this space is that it’s probably the only room in your house where you can properly relax. Cue peaceful music, candlelight, and a huge bubbling tub. There’s nothing better than getting in a hot bath after a long day and maybe lighting some candles while you’re at it. And if all you manly men are reading this (which is far and few between) and you think a nice long bath isn’t manly, then you’re wrong, as this article on mansalt.com has clearly tried to prove.
A Lot Of People See Your Bathroom
Last but not least. A lot of people see your bathroom. Think about it, when you have guests over, where are they most likely to go? Of course, they’ll probably be in your hallway or living room, maybe even your kitchen/dining area if you’re having a dinner party. But then there are the few brave ones that decide they don’t care or really have to go, that sneak into your bathroom. Everyone needs to use the toilet at some point, and you need to ensure your bathroom is in tip-top shape. So your bathroom, really isn’t the one space that you should neglect design-wise.
So, now you can see the importance of a great bathroom, for heaven’s sake please go clean those toilet rings, grab yourself a candle, and hang some fresh towels cus it’s time to get to work and update yours!
